Is Your Thanksgiving Bread Basket Boring? – Seven Sisters Scones

Is Your Thanksgiving Bread Basket Boring?

As you can guess from our name, we come from a big family. When Thanksgiving comes around, we’ve got a lot of mouths to feed. So, we all chip in. I have always been responsible for the bread basket or, as I like to call it, the crown jewel of Thanksgiving dinner.

Yes, we all know the usual suspects - biscuits, cornbread, yeasty rolls, and crusty baguettes. Those are all great, traditional choices. Personally, I like to throw a few surprises in there as well.

So, here are some new items I’m going to be throwing in our bread basket.

    • Scones: Because, obviously. On a serious note though, savory scones can be a fantastic way to upgrade your biscuits. You can get them in large or mini sizes. On the savory side, the Bacon, Cheddar & Chive or Garlic Herb make a nice accompaniment to dinner. They are also great to cut open and make sandwiches on later. If you are looking for a sweet twist, the Cranberry Orange or Sweet Potato & Cardamom scone are nice fall flavors that go well a classic Thanksgiving dinner.
    • Flat Breads: These are great for sopping up that extra gravy and juices. They are also very versatile and can be made either savory or sweet. You can choose to have a pretty simple flatbread like naan that’s topped with a garlic and rosemary or do something a little more elaborate like this Roasted Cranberry and Goat Cheese Recipe.
    • Pop-overs: Delicate and airy, these pop-overs are a fun way to add a lighter element to your bread basket. And they are super easy to make. Here’s a great recipe from Ina Garten that adds thyme, a great flavor profile for your bread basket.
So, if you’re looking for creative ways to dress up your Thanksgiving bread basket, try some new types of breads, rather than a new take on old classics.
